Accelerate your Azure migration and modernization journey
In the past year, organizations have increasingly turned to the cloud to survive potential business disruptions. At Microsoft, we’ve partnered with companies of all sizes to help them take advantage of the scalability, teleworking enablement, and cost savings of moving to the cloud. As we plan for the future together, we expect customers to continue to leverage cloud investments to refine and reimagine their digital strategies with a focus on productivity, sustainability and remote security.
“Managing airports during a pandemic is a challenge. The Azure Migration Program (AMP) helped us successfully perform a lift-and-shift (the process of migrating a workload from the on-premises environment to the cloud with little or no modification) during the most urgent situation Swedavia has ever faced. , giving us access to world-class experts and advice throughout the project.” – Joakim Eriksson, IT Director, Swedavia Airlines
At Microsoft Inspire, we announce new and expanded programs, offerings and product investments – helping customers accelerate their migration and modernization journey with Azure.
Azure Migration Program (AMP) is now Azure Migration and Modernization Program (AMMP)
Over the past 24 months, the Azure Migration Program (AMP) has helped thousands of customers unlock the benefits of the cloud, with the right mix of expert guidance and best practices to migrate to Azure. The University of Leicester and the British Council are two such examples. We’re also supporting organizations in meeting their sustainability goals, helping AMMP customers become up to 93% more energy efficient by moving to Azure.
As we worked with these customers, they also asked for our help in modernizing their applications. Based on these comments, we are pleased to announce that the Azure Migration Program is evolving to become the Azure Migration and Modernization Program (AMMP) with support for application modernization scenarios. We are also expanding AMMP with new support for Azure Spring Cloud and Azure Cosmos DB. Learn more and join AMMP – to move forward with confidence, together.
“We took advantage of AMMP to modernize three mission-critical applications for a large healthcare company. AMMP has not only driven our customer engagement, it has also helped us drive progress and best practices for cloud landing zone planning, discovery and creation.” – Todd Fine, Director of Strategy, Atmosera

Customers can take advantage of Azure’s unique innovative features and ease the operational burden while modernizing Windows Server and SQL Server environments. For example, Azure Automanage improves workload performance and uptime through simplified management for Windows Server and Linux VMs. Azure VMware solution allows customers to migrate quickly while continuing to benefit from their VMware investments. Azure Virtual Desktop helps customers modernize their virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments based on Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS). Likewise, the SQL Server IaaS extension provides automated management, patching and backups for SQL Server VMs in Azure. Read more about our end-of-support offerings and the latest in Windows Server and SQL Server innovation.
Improved Azure Migration and Modernization Tools
We continue to invest in a wide range of deployment options for modernizing container-based applications. In March, we previewed the App Containerization tool that helps you get your .NET and Java apps into containers and quickly deploy them to the Azure Kubernetes Service. We recently announced that App Containerization also supports the Azure App Service.
Azure SQL-enabled Azure Arc (General Purpose) is available as of July 30, 2021. This allows customers to consistently manage their hybrid SQL Server environments during and after the move – on their terms. Azure Arc now integrates with Azure Lighthouse, giving partners additional opportunities to manage resources in high-end environments, data centers and multi-cloud environments.</>
